I think restaurants should provide Stainless steel straws as part of the silverware. They are easy to wash. You call it tokenism, i call it a small start 🙂. Start to the end of single use plastics.

Use reusable steel straws. I carry my own stainless steel straws. They are dishwasher safe.

Mohit - what fantastic point you brought up here … we have been carrying steel straws for a while for our kids especially while we travel . and our experience here in US with cardboard straws have not been that bad from taste perspective it’s altogether a different thing my four year old chews it up and it’s rendered useless … but the bigger point you bring up here is startling… they are replacing polytene bags also soon which till now I was supportive of but now I see it in the same realm of tokenism…

My only hope is there will be a technological solution to this . May be some polymer which doesn’t take hundreds of years to decompose

I think we can also use candy straws,(it's completely my opinion). They are completely edible (especially for kids).

I know that it will contain a lot of sugar, but you are drinking a smoothie after all(I hope it's a sugar one)

Coming to the Tokenism part, i don't think i have to say anything. Our government is one of the greatest example of it....
