More education, unfortunately doesn't lead to better outcomes. That is not to say that Sonu should not pursue education (He may be smart enough and start his own business). We, as a society have to change the narrative on education. Education (unless its technical) should lead to better/more learning, and may be, but not necessarily a job. In the northern plains of UP, Bihar, Jharkhand that are vast armies of people with degrees and expectation that someone will give them a job.

You are so right, Punit, and I was acutely aware of that, even as I engaged with Sonu on the prospect of continuing his studies.

On a single-case basis, of course, I would have done a great deal to guide him to a meaningful job.

At a systemic level, what you wrote is 100 per cent true.

Mohit your observant posts bring out so much that we have turned a blind eye !

VS Naipaul articulated ....

India is blind to itself. The Indian press has interpreted its function in an Indian way. It has not sought to put India in touch with itself; it doesn’t really know how, and it hasn’t felt the need.

When men cannot observe, they don’t have ideas; they have obsessions. When people live instinctive lives, something like a collective amnesia steadily blurs the past.
